Danny & Nicki - Slaugham Place
Nicki and Danny's celebration was a beautiful wedding day from start to finish. With the backdrop of the incredibly stunning Slougham place, the perfect weather, and fantastic company. We knew that today would feel nothing like work, and it truly didn't.
I arrived at Nikki's parents house in Brighton late morning. I found a very excited Nicki who was looking forward to the arrival of her bridesmaids and having her hair and make-up done. The house was a beautiful setting for wedding preparations with a stunning multi level garden. Perfect for those dress shots later on. I collected together the smaller details of the wedding, such as the flowers and shoes and took them into the garden to photograph them individually. The flowers I thought were absolutely stunning, a real tropical bouquet put together by my good friend Lynn from Fleur De Lynn. As the bridesmaids started to arrive the excitement grew and grew and Nicki's infectious beaming grin got bigger and bigger. Our style of photography is always very relaxed in its execution, but today it felt even more so. I was happy to just stand in the background and document things as they happened. Once Nicki was dressed and ready I captured some shots of her and her bridesmaids in the garden just before heading off to the venue. Plus a few of Nicki and her parents who had been such brilliant hosts.
Steph meanwhile had gone to a local hotel to meet with Danny, his Groomsmen and Groomslady. They were in their room and getting ready but making sure to enjoy the process and have a laugh too. Steph then followed them on to the gorgeous venue. Slaugham place was a new venue for us, but one that I most definitely hope to return to one day. Steph made sure to get some photographs of Danny and his party before the wedding ceremony and greeting the guests on their arrival.
I arrived before Nicki's wedding car I met up with Steph to sort out the logistics of photographing the ceremony. I had visited the venue with Danny and Nicki a couple of weeks before to discuss photo ideas and make final plans for the day, which certainly helped. The walk down the "aisle" was across the lawn up to the arches of the ruin. Certainly a very spectacular way to enter your wedding ceremony but we had to decide where we would be standing so that we didn't capture ourselves too much in each other's photos. The ceremony was beautiful, with lots of laughs, big smiles, and big cheers when the couple had their first kiss. Everyone was so happy for Danny and Nicki and I am pleased to say that shines through in the photographs.
As the couple made their way out of the ceremony they were greeted with a guard of confetti throwers. A shot that came out really spectacularly well in the final photos. Confetti shots are often some of the most special from the wedding day. I always recommend that the bride and groom provide some of their own confetti so that there is plenty to go around.
The wedding party had their drinks reception amongst the ruins which made a really great backdrop for those candid relaxed photos that are often some of the best from the day. The weather was superb too which only ever makes our jobs easier. After a few minutes relaxing with their guests we gathered together the bride and groom and their wedding party for the traditional group photographs. We of course used the ruins as the backdrop for these photos. It made such a lovely setting.
Once the group photos were complete we wandered around the grounds with Danny and Nicki to get some photographs of just the two of them together. I was very glad that I had taken the time to meet with the couple at the venue before the wedding as Slaugham Place is such a vast area. It would be a bad idea to turn up at a venue such as this without knowing the layout. It meant that we could take Danny and Nicky around the grounds efficiently and not keep them away from their guests for too long.
The happy couple, not only opted for the traditional three speech makers (Groom, Best man, and Father of the Bride) but we also heard from the Bridesmaids, who did a lovely speech including all of them saying individual little speeches and a few words as a collective. This was really sweet and gave such a personal touch to proceedings. We are a big fan of the non-conventional and are all for it when the Bride, Bridesmaids or Mums gets up to speak.
As the evening drew in, we whisked Danny and Nicki off for a few more couple photos as the sun was setting. These are some of my favourite photos from the day. They became a mixture of posed and candid moments as we talked about their beautiful wedding day.
As expected there was much dancing and joy as the evening went on. We stayed for the first dance and to watch a happy couple and their guests dance to the brilliant band Oomphf (great name!) that have been booked for the evening entertainment.
Thank you so much, Danny and Nicki, for inviting us to your beautiful wedding and giving us the opportunity to capture such wonderful photos. It was a pleasure to be amongst your lovely friends and family for the day and to bear witness to your wonderfully creative and personal wedding. All the very best for the future may it be long and filled with happiness.
